Hua Hin is a famous beach resort in Thailand. It is situated just 200 km South of Bangkok on the Gulf of Thailand. Originally popularized with the arrival of the Kings Palace in 1920’s it has managed to retain its charm to this day.

Hua Hin literally means ‘Stone Head’ and derives its name from the rock formations seen at the southern end of the main beach.

Now transformed from its once humble beginnings as a fishing village into a major beach resort, it has retained its strong ties to Thailand’s Royal Family.

With a population of  approximately 85,000 permanent residents Hua Hin caters to both foreign and Thai holiday makers and remanis a popular retirement choice for expats the world over.

The History of Hua Hin Thailand

During the reign of King Rama VI (1910-1925) the construction of the southern railway line to Hua Hin marked the start of its transformation. This was soon followed with the building of the Railway Hotel (now the Centara Resort) and Thailand’s first golf course, the Royal Hua Hin. In 1926 King Rama VII commissioned the construction of the summer Palace, known as Klai Kangwon Palace (meaning “far from worries”).
